4 ways to rock your senior photoshoot at the beach!

Are you planning to do your high school senior photoshoot at the beach, but the nerves are setting in because you have no idea what to expect? You have all the questions like: What should I wear? What should I do with my hair and makeup?! How should I pose?! If you want to know 4 ways to rock your senior photoshoot at the beach, let’s dive in!

1. Pick a beachy outfit that you feel comfortable and confident in.

First of all, focus on choosing the perfect outfit! Pick an outfit that you feel comfortable doing a variety of poses in: sitting, twirling, and frolicking (yes, my fave). Being comfy not only makes it more fun, but your confidence will shine through in your photos. On the flip-side, if you’re uncomfortable, you’ll most likely look tense. Also, the colors you choose for you outfits will evoke a certain feeling. Whites, neutrals and muted tones bring a soft and serene vibe to your photos. Brighter, jewel-toned colors will give a beautiful pop and fun energy. The beach calls for flowy dresses in the warmer months, and cozy styles in the winter! Lastly, when you book your shoot with me, you’ll also be sent a detailed “what to wear” guide to help you in the outfit picking process!

2. Rock your session with natural makeup look.

Hold up–when I say natural, I don’t mean skip it altogether! Even if you’re the kind of girl who never wears makeup, the camera washes you out and makeup will simply enhance your natural beauty. It is an absolute MUST for your senior photos! For example, choosing neutral and pink tones with a pretty cheek highlight will look gorgeous.  You can also bring along your favorite lip color, and make it a tiny bit bolder than you usually would.  Most of all, choose a creamy lipstick or lip tint rather than a gloppy or shiny gloss which WILL get stuck to your lips as soon as that ocean breeze blows! Lastly, I always recommend getting your makeup professionally done…it will look polished and you’ll be camera-ready! You can find my own makeup inspo on Pinterest: click here!

3. The beach calls for mermaid hair. Expect your hair to fly with the wind, and own it!

Like I mentioned in tip number two, your hair WILL dance in that ocean wind. Mermaid hair, it’s your time to shine! Style your hair naturally, with loose beach waves or curls. To show off your hair’s natural highlights, I always recommend a little spritz of argan oil (enhances that healthy shine) and sea salt spray (gives it that beachy texture).

4. Have fun with it! No, really. Frolic, dance, be a fool. You’re at the beach, be carefree!

My last and most important tip in 4 ways to rock your senior portraits at the beach…HAVE A BLAST! The beach is vast, a wide open place that often brings a feeling of freedom…it calls for some free-spirited fun. Therefore, whether you love to frolic in the sand like a kid on Christmas morning (me!), or you want to end your session wading in the ocean (ok, also me), the options are endless. Your senior session is meant to reflect you, so be yourself and have fun!
